Erik T. Bendiks, M.D.

Dr. Bendiks is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon affiliated with seven hospitals in the Atlanta area, a leading spine surgeon and researcher, and a Fellow of the American College of Orthopedic Surgery.

He has been nominated as a Top Doctor by the International Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, lectured at numerous conferences, and taught other spine surgeons on new techniques and technology to include his knowledge and development of new implant designs.

Dr. Bendiks pioneered a percutaneous technique for low back fusion (Lumbar Fusion) which has since been adopted by leading spine centers across the United States for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. His method of minimally invasive interspinous decompression (Stenoplasty) allows patients to be sent home the same day with significant pain relief in a matter of days.

You can’t truly understand what it’s like to have constant back or neck pain until you have had it yourself!  Dr. Erik T. Bendiks is a skilled and caring spine surgeon who knows this fact firsthand. His experience with back pain has given him an appreciation for the patient’s point of view and his years of highly specialized training have given him the skill to become one of the leading spine surgeons in the United States. He is a Board Certified surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Orthopedic Surgery, and has been nominated as a Top Doctor by the International Association of Orthopedic Surgeons. During Dr. Bendiks’ near 10 year career, he has treated thousands of patients with neck and back pain from all over the Southeast US, Central America and Caribbean.

As a leading spine surgeon and researcher, Dr. Bendiks has spoken at numerous meetings. He has also taught other spine surgeons on new techniques and technology at several meetings; and he has a pioneered a 360 degree minimally invasive method for fusing vertebrae together in 2004 that he continues to use today. This technique has since been adopted by other leading spine institutions, and allows patients to leave the hospital the same day or the next day with less pain, rather than having to stay for 3-4 days with the standard large incision surgery. Dr. Bendiks is currently involved in the design and development of spinal implants, and Dr. Bendiks’ patients certainly benefit from this knowledge of implant science and design.

Dr. Bendiks is one of the leading surgeons in the Southeast United States for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. His method of minimally invasive interspinous decompression (Stenoplasty) does not remove any bone, ligament, muscle, or tendon. Patients are sent home the same day and usually notice significant relief in a matter of days without the need for any post-operative physical therapy.

CT scans, xrays, MRI’s, myelograms, discograms, EMG’s!!!! What do they all mean?  Dr. Bendiks understands that this alphabet soup of tests is confusing. He will take the time to review the test results with you, so that you have a better understanding of what is going on with your body. Once the problem is identified, then a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs can begin.
